Thai cooking class DTV visa: what each embassy asks for
Thai culinary training is named in the DTV's soft-power category beside Muay Thai. Two posts say what the school must send; the rest repeat the portal's one line. Here is what is written, and where.

Thai cooking in the official wording
Every official source names Thai culinary training or cooking classes as an example of the soft-power category. None gives a closed list, and none singles cooking out for extra conditions.
Thai e-Visa portal
“Thai soft power-related activities (e.g., Muay Thai, Thai culinary training, and medical treatment)”
Royal Thai Embassy, London
“DTV2 - Thai soft power related activities (e.g., Muay Thai, Thai culinary training, and medical treatment)”
Royal Thai Consulate-General, Ho Chi Minh City
“Muay Thai courses, cooking classes, sport trainings, medical treatment, seminars, as well as music festivals”
Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, infographic of 16 July 2024
“Muay Thai courses, Thai Cooking classes, Sport training, Medical treatment, Seminars, Music Festivals”
“Proof of confirmation to attend the activity or letter of appointment from hospital/medical center”That is the whole central requirement. It names no school register, no course length and no content for the confirmation. Two posts fill the gap; the others leave it to the school.

What each post asks the school to provide
Read your own post's page before the school writes anything. Singapore and Paris go further than the portal; the rest repeat it.
| Post | Their wording | In practice | Page date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore |
| Two items: the school's letter confirming your enrolment on the course, and the school's own licence, business licence or affidavit. | 7 September 2026 |
| Paris |
| Four items: the school's invitation or acceptance letter, the signatory's ID, the school's business registration or licence, and proof that you paid. The same list serves every soft-power activity. | 28 August 2026 |
| Washington |
| Generic: nothing specific to cooking. | 10 September 2026 |
| Los Angeles |
| Generic. Los Angeles adds conditions for Muay Thai only; cooking has none. | 1 October 2026 |
| London |
| The portal's wording, nothing specific to cooking. | 8 September 2026 |
| Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich |
| The portal's wording. The checklist names “Thai Kochkurs” among the examples and asks nothing more of the school. | 28 August 2026 |

What the school sends
Three documents, from the posts that name them
Where a post says more than the portal, it asks the school for the same three things. Ask for them whatever your post, and keep the originals.
The enrolment letter
Singapore asks for a “letter from school for the enrolment of the course”
; Paris for the school's invitation or acceptance letter, with the signatory's ID. Every other post accepts it as the “proof of confirmation to attend the activity”
. A booking email is not a letter.
The school's licence
Singapore asks for the school's “school license, business license or affidavit”
; Paris for its “registre de commerce/licence”
. No post publishes a register of approved schools: the licence the school already holds is what you upload.
Proof of payment
Paris names it; Singapore does not. The portal does not ask for it. Where the course is paid, the receipt is the simplest way to tie your name to the programme you declared.
Course length
No embassy publishes a minimum course length for a Thai cooking class.
A programme that covers your planned stay is the defensible choice, and the post can ask for more. A single afternoon's class is not what the category describes.
Not stated
What no post publishes
Claims circulate on school and agency sites. These are the ones no official page we checked supports. Ask your post.
- A minimum course length
- Weeks, months, a number of hours: none appears on the portal, the ministry's pages or the posts we checked (Paris, London, Washington, Los Angeles, New York, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Berlin).
- A list of approved schools
- We found no official register of cooking schools. Singapore and Paris ask for the licence the school already holds, not for a place on a list.
- What the letter must say
- No post specifies dates, schedule or curriculum in the letter. Singapore names its purpose, the enrolment; nobody lists its content.
- An ED visa for cooking
- New York lists a Non-Immigrant ED for language courses and Muay Thai. No post we checked lists one for cooking. The DTV is the visa the posts name for it.
The rest of the file
Cooking changes one line. The others are the common base: passport, photograph, proof of permanent residence, 500,000 THB or a sponsorship letter, and the criminal record certificate.

Questions
Thai cooking class DTV visa: common questions
Can I get a DTV visa for a Thai cooking class?
Yes. Thai culinary training is named as an example in the DTV's soft-power category on the e-Visa portal and on embassy pages. You need the school's confirmation that you attend, plus the common documents every applicant sends.
How long must my cooking course be for a DTV?
No embassy publishes a minimum. A programme that covers your planned stay is the defensible choice, and the post can ask for more.
Does the cooking school need to be registered or approved?
No post publishes a register of approved schools. Singapore asks for the school's licence, business licence or affidavit; Paris for its business registration or licence. The other posts we checked ask for the confirmation only.
What should the school's letter say?
No post specifies its content. Singapore calls it a letter for the enrolment of the course; Paris asks for it with the signatory's ID, the school's registration or licence, and proof of payment.
Can I combine a cooking class with remote work on the same DTV?
The portal asks you to choose one purpose and to upload the documents of that category. Which category fits your file is for the post to assess; ask yours before you upload. Check your case.
Can I apply from Thailand while I take the course?
No. The e-Visa portal does not take applications from inside Thailand, and since 31 August 2026 you file with the post covering your country of nationality or of permanent residence.
