Filing from Belgium

DTV visa from Belgium: the embassy in Brussels

One embassy takes every Thai visa application from Belgium and Luxembourg, and publishes its own DTV sheet in three languages. You file online, pay €350 on your own card, and add an extrait de casier judiciaire from your commune.

Who files here

Who files at the embassy in Brussels

Brussels covers Belgium and Luxembourg: “Residents of Belgium or Luxembourg can apply for e-Visas through the Thai Embassy in Brussels.” Anyone living elsewhere files with the Thai post of their own country. What counts as permanent residence

Honorary consulates: not a visa route

  • Antwerp
  • Luxembourg

Covered by Brussels

  • Belgium
  • Luxembourg

A visitor cannot file here: “Applications from outside of Belgium or Luxembourg as well as any pending visa applications from foreign nationals who are currently in Thailand will be automatically denied.”

Proof of residence, in the embassy's words

  • “Proof of residence in Belgium/Luxembourg dated within the last 3 months for European passport holders (electricity bill, mobile phone bill, internet bill) and a residence permit if you are not an EU citizen”
  • “Official proof of address from commune or rental contract in Belgium/Luxembourg”

Both lines predate the rule of 31 August 2026, which asks for proof of permanent residence. A commune certificate of residence meets both readings; a utility bill may not. The embassy has not said which it now expects.

The checklist

The DTV checklist for Brussels

Brussels publishes its own DTV sheet, in English, French and Dutch, a file dated 18 June 2025. It predates the rule of 31 August 2026 and does not list the criminal record certificate; the ministry's card deck of 31 August 2026 does. Send what both ask. Every file is uploaded on the portal, 3 MB at most per file.

The rules every post shares: DTV visa requirements and DTV visa cost.

Every applicant (Brussels sheet, 18 June 2025)

Passport
“Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure.”
Photo
“Recent official color ID photo (Photobooth) taken within the last 6 months”. No cropped passport scans.
Proof of residence
A bill dated within 3 months for EU passports, plus a residence permit for others. Since 31 August 2026, read it as proof of permanent residence: a commune certificate is the safer document.
Financial evidence
“Official bank statement with a minimum balance of €15,000 dated within the last 30 days.” “Sponsorship letter is allowed only for child aged less than 18 years.” The ministry's card asks 500,000 THB over 3 months: send 3 months of statements.
Criminal record certificate
Not on Brussels's sheet. On the ministry's card since 31 August 2026: “Certificate of criminal record clearance from the country of nationality or the country where the application is submitted”. For the Belgian one, see below.

Your lane

Workation
“Employment contract / Employment certificate from the company in Belgium/Luxembourg stating that you are still employed and paid by the company during your stay in Thailand.” Otherwise a professional portfolio showing your status as digital nomad, remote worker, highly skilled worker or freelancer.
Thai soft power
“Invitation/acceptance letter regarding the activity of the host organization in Thailand or the letter of appointment from the hospital.”
Spouse or child under 20
“Proof of marriage or relationship with the DTV visa holder (marriage certificate, birth certificate, or family record book) as well as the passport page and the DTV visa of the latter.”

How Brussels runs it

Timing
“Apply for the visa in advance, at least a minimum of 3 weeks and maximum 8 weeks before the expected date of your departure because the day of approval is the starting date of your visa validity.” Files are handled in order of payment.
Payment
“Payment must be made with a Visa or Mastercard card only. BANCONTACT, MAESTRO, and other cards are not accepted.”
No corrections, no status by phone
“We cannot adjust anything.” A document requested by the embassy must arrive within 30 days or the file is cancelled. “The Embassy will not provide any information regarding the status of visa applications via telephone/email.”

Criminal record certificate

Your criminal record certificate: the extrait de casier judiciaire

Brussels does not name the certificate it accepts. The rule applies: one certificate, from your country of nationality or from Belgium if you hold permanent residence there. Belgium's is the extrait de casier judiciaire, the former certificat de bonne vie et mœurs, issued by your commune from the Casier judiciaire central.

Which certificate

Anyone registered in a Belgian commune asks that commune, “que vous vouliez utiliser l'extrait en Belgique ou à l'étranger”. Anyone not registered, Belgians abroad included, writes to the Casier judiciaire central. The basic model 595 is the one for a visa. How the certificate works

Only the official channels

The SPF Justice warned on 19 November 2019 against a commercial site carrying its logo: “il ne s'agissait PAS d'un site du gouvernement”. The extract comes from your commune or from the central service, nowhere else (press release).

Living in Luxembourg

A permanent resident of Luxembourg files in Brussels with Luxembourg's own extrait du casier judiciaire or the one of their nationality. We have not read the Luxembourg pages: ask the embassy.

No apostille

Thailand joined the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and it applies to Thailand only from 28 February 2027. Until then an apostille is not valid for Thailand, and no post asks for one on the DTV upload.

Step by step

  1. Ask your commune

“Demandez l'extrait à votre commune, si vous êtes inscrit(e) dans une commune belge.” Most communes take the request online through their own site; details differ by commune (SPF Justice). State the purpose: a visa application.

  2. Free, or a small administrative cost

“Vous recevez votre extrait gratuitement ou pour un coût administratif limité”, the SPF Justice wrote on 19 November 2019. No fixed national fee is published; your commune's page gives its own.

  3. Not registered in Belgium? Write to the central service

“Vous devez vous adresser personnellement par mail au Service Public Fédéral Justice, Service du Casier judiciaire central”: name, address, date and place of birth, purpose, a copy of your ID card or passport, to casierjudiciaire@just.fgov.be. “Ces extraits sont délivrés gratuitement.” Counter in Brussels Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 09:00 to 11:30 and 14:00 to 15:30 (Foreign Affairs).

  4. Ask for the basic model 595

Three models exist. Model 595 is “le modèle de base”; models 596-1 and 596-2 are for regulated professions and work with minors, and need a form filled by an employer. A visa needs none of that.

  5. Mind the date

Neither the SPF Justice nor Brussels publishes a validity period. Other posts ask for three to six months. File soon after it is issued.

What the embassy in Brussels does not say

Several questions its pages leave open. We do not guess: ask the embassy before you file.

  • A post-rule DTV sheet

The sheet is a file dated 18 June 2025; the visa pages were updated 9 June 2025 and 25 September 2025. None mentions the rule of 31 August 2026 or the criminal record certificate.

  • Which money figure counts

The sheet asks €15,000 within 30 days; the ministry's card 500,000 THB over 3 months. Brussels has not said which it applies.

  • One processing time

About 4 weeks on the sheet, 4 to 5 weeks in high season on one page, 10 days after a complete file in the FAQ, “up to 3 months” for certain nationals.

  • Certificate age and language

No maximum age for the certificate, and no word on whether a Dutch or French extract needs a translation.

  • What a Belgian citizen uploads as permanent residence

The sheet names a bill for EU passports and a permit for others. Which document now proves permanent residence is not stated.

  • Luxembourg specifics

Luxembourg is covered, but no Luxembourg document is named for residence or the criminal record.

Brussels's sheet: “official bank statement with a minimum balance of €15,000 dated within the last 30 days”. The ministry's portal: 500,000 THB over 3 months. Send 3 months of statements showing €15,000 and both are met.
