Filing from Portugal
DTV visa from Portugal: the embassy in Lisbon
One embassy takes every Thai visa application from Portugal, and publishes almost nothing about it. You file online, pay the embassy on your own card, and add a certificado de registo criminal, €5, issued online once paid.

Who files here
Who files at the embassy in Lisbon
The embassy's site does not say who it covers. The ministry's rule does: since 31 August 2026 you file with the post of the country where you hold permanent residence. Living in Portugal, that is Lisbon. What counts as permanent residence
Covered by Lisbon
- Portugal
A visitor to Portugal cannot file here. Whether Lisbon also covers any other country is not stated on its pages.
Proof of permanent residence, in the ministry's words
- “Proof of permanent residence in the country where the application is submitted”
Which Portuguese document proves it is not stated. The embassy publishes no page of its own on the rule.
The checklist
The DTV checklist for Lisbon
The embassy publishes no DTV list: its only visa page, in Thai and dated 28 November 2022, links a paper form from 2013. The portal's list is the ministry's card deck of 31 August 2026. Every file is uploaded there, 3 MB at most per file.
The rules every post shares: DTV visa requirements and DTV visa cost.

- Lisbon gives no figure. The certificate below takes a day; the rest of the file is what takes time.

Criminal record certificate
Your criminal record certificate: the certificado de registo criminal
Lisbon does not name the certificate it accepts. The rule applies: one certificate, from your country of nationality or from Portugal if you hold permanent residence there. Portugal's is the Ministry of Justice's certificado de registo criminal, issued by the Serviços de Identificação Criminal.
Which certificate
A Portuguese citizen living in Portugal sends the Portuguese certificate. A permanent resident of another nationality may send it or the one of their own country. The Portuguese one is bilingual, Portuguese and English, and carries an access code the embassy can verify online. How the certificate works
Living abroad
A Portuguese citizen abroad uses the same portal; anyone may write to the Serviços de Identificação Criminal with the form for residents abroad, or authorise someone in Portugal to ask at a counter.
No apostille
Thailand joined the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and it applies to Thailand only from 28 February 2027. Until then an apostille is not valid for Thailand, and no post asks for one on the DTV upload.
Step by step
Sign in to Registo Criminal Online
With the Cartão de Cidadão and a reader, or the Chave Móvel Digital. EU citizens may use their national eID through eIDAS; a third-country national uses a Chave Móvel Digital linked to a passport or residence permit (DGAJ FAQ).
Pay €5
“O certificado tem um custo de €5.” By Multibanco reference, card, MB WAY or PayPal; not by bank transfer (registocriminal.justica.gov.pt).
Download it once issued
“O certificado pedido no Portal do Registo Criminal Online é emitido após recebido o pagamento.” If the identification needs a manual check, within 3 working days at most. It appears under Os Meus Pedidos; it is not emailed.
Or at a counter
Anyone over 16, of any nationality, with a valid ID, at the Serviços de Identificação Criminal, court registries or Lojas do Cidadão. Appointment advised. The request is verbal; you sign a receipt.
Mind the date
The certificate prints its own validity, visible in the portal. Lisbon states no maximum age; other posts ask for three to six months. File soon after it is issued.

What the embassy in Lisbon does not say
Its site leaves almost every DTV question open. We do not guess: ask the embassy before you file.
A DTV page
None. The visa page is in Thai, dated 28 November 2022, and links a 2013 paper form. The rule of 31 August 2026 appears nowhere on the site.
The fee
No Lisbon page prints a DTV fee. The portal shows the amount at payment; other euro-area posts charge €350.
A processing time
No figure, for the DTV or for e-Visas in general.
Who it covers
No statement of jurisdiction. Residents of Portugal file here; anyone else should ask.
Which certificate, how old
The registo criminal is Portugal's certificate, but Lisbon does not name it or set a maximum age.
A euro figure
No euro equivalent of 500,000 THB, and no rule on the currency of the statements.
