Filing from Spain
DTV visa from Spain: the embassy in Madrid
One embassy takes every Thai visa application from Spain and Andorra. You file online, pay €350 on your own card, and add a criminal record certificate: for a Spanish resident, the Ministry of Justice's certificado de antecedentes penales, €3.86, usually issued on the spot.

Who files here
Who files at the embassy in Madrid
The embassy's own condition: “deberán ser nacionales españoles o andorranos, o residentes permanentes del Reino de España o del Principado de Andorra”. Anyone living elsewhere files with the Thai post of their own country. What counts as permanent residence
Covered by Madrid
- Spain
- Andorra
Since 31 August 2026 the ministry's rule says the same: permanent residence in the country where you file. A visitor to Spain cannot file here.
Permanent residence, in the embassy's words
Madrid writes it as a condition, not as a document: which paper proves it is not stated. For a non-citizen, expect to upload your residence card; a Spanish citizen should ask the embassy what it wants.
The checklist
The DTV checklist for Madrid
The embassy's own list, in Spanish, updated 22 September 2026, after the rule. The three lanes share the same base. Every file is uploaded on thaievisa.go.th, 3 MB at most per file.
The rules every post shares: DTV visa requirements and DTV visa cost.
Every applicant (Madrid, 22 September 2026)
- Passport
Not a photo-booth print.
- Nationality or permanent residence

- Financial evidence
The embassy states no number of months; the portal's cards say the last 3.
- Criminal record certificate
The embassy adds that it may ask for certificates from other countries where you have lived.
Your lane

How Madrid runs it
- Timing
Beyond three months between application and travel, the portal cancels the application.
- Other countries' certificates
If you have lived abroad recently, expect the question.
- Questions
- By email first, “(Preferable)”. The phone line answers Monday to Friday, 15:00 to 17:00; the consular counter is open 09:30 to 13:30.
Criminal record certificate
Your criminal record certificate: the certificado de antecedentes penales
Madrid names the issuer, not the paper: the authorities of your country of nationality, or of Spain or Andorra where you hold permanent residence. In Spain that is the Ministry of Justice's certificado de antecedentes penales, from the Registro Central de Penados.
Which certificate
A Spanish citizen living in Spain sends the Spanish certificate. A permanent resident of another nationality may send the Spanish certificate or the one of their own country, and Madrid may ask for both if you have lived in several countries. How the certificate works
In person or by post
At a registry office or a Gerencia Territorial de Justicia, by appointment in Madrid: usually issued on the spot. By post, normally within 3 working days of receipt, 10 at most.
Andorra
A permanent resident of Andorra sends the Andorran certificate or the one of their nationality. We have not read an official Andorran page: ask the embassy.
No apostille
Thailand joined the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and it applies to Thailand only from 28 February 2027. Until then an apostille is not valid for Thailand, and no post asks for one on the DTV upload.
Step by step
Apply online with Cl@ve or a digital certificate
The online application checks your identity with the national police database and takes the fee by card through the tax agency's gateway.
Pay €3.86
“PRECIO DE LA TASA: 3,86 €”, the form 790, code 006 (ministry page). Online, the payment is part of the application.
Get it on the spot, or within 24 hours
“Como norma general, su certificado de Antecedentes Penales se emitirá en el momento.” Otherwise it is usually ready within 24 hours, in general no more than 3 working days, and 10 working days at the legal limit.
EU citizens of another nationality: up to 30 days
Spain must also query your country of nationality through ECRIS: “El plazo máximo es de 30 días naturales.” Order it first.
Skip the apostille, mind the date
The form offers an apostille for use abroad. No post asks for one on the DTV upload, and an apostille is not valid for Thailand before 28 February 2027. Madrid states no maximum age; other posts ask for three to six months, so file soon after it is issued.

What the embassy in Madrid does not say
Several questions its pages leave open. We do not guess: ask the embassy before you file.
A processing time
No figure on any Madrid page, for the DTV or for e-Visas in general. Only the one-to-two-months advice.
The residence document
Permanent residence is a condition on the list, not a document. Which paper a Spanish citizen or a resident uploads is not stated.
Certificate age
No maximum age for the criminal record certificate. Other posts ask for three to six months.
Months of statements
Madrid asks for a statement or an account certificate at 500,000 THB, without a number of months. The portal's cards say the last 3.
A euro figure
No euro equivalent of 500,000 THB, and no rule on the currency of the statements.
Honorary consulates
The embassy's site lists none that we could read. Visa applications go to the portal only, so none would take one.
